Reaching heights of over 2,500m, the incredible Grossglockner High Alpine road is the highest surfaced mountain pass in Austria.
Situated in the heart of the high Tauern National Park and named after the ‘Grossglockner’ [Austria’s highest mountain], this amazingly scenic pass extends nearly 50kms and has 36 turns. The road leads from Bruck in the Salzach Valley and after finally crossing the Alpine divide, stunning panoramic views can be enjoyed at 2,369 m (7,772 ft) at the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe visitors’ centre. Quite simply ‘awesome’.
