Yet again, 100 years on from the first, Le Mans excelled in every expectation.
What a race, what an event! A record crowd of 325,000 were here to witness this SOLD-OUT, centenary race. Not one of them came away disappointed. With sudden downpours, numerous lead changes and spectacular, drama filled incidents throughout, it was a breathtaking race from start to the finish and anyone’s guess who would come out tops. By lunchtime Sunday, the leading Ferrari pitted and couldn’t restart. Toyota grabbed the lead only for the restarted Ferrari to fight back. As the chequered flag finally fell, it was Ferrari that secured a historic win for a team returning to the top category after 50 years; the car coming home just over a minute ahead of Toyota after 24 hard fought hours.
